Design Engineer

At Helen of Troy, I had the pleasure of working on the Industrial Design team for the home and outdoors division of the company. One of the brands I worked on was the Hydro Flask water bottle line. In this role, I focused on design engineering of new bottle vessels and specialized caps for an upcoming line.

For each project, I worked alongside a designer to develop solutions based on a project brief. This process involved identifying consumer needs, user testing, mechanism design, prototyping, and developing final DFM CAD for production.

In this role I was able to develop my experience in the following areas:

  • Advanced 3D modeling and surfacing using SolidWorks

  • Design for mass production focused on injection molding, hydro forming, and welding

  • Developing solutions based on user insights, user testing, DFM, and DFA

  • Mechanism design and plastic material selection to optimize performance and durability

  • Rapid prototyping using SLA, FDM, CNC, and welding

  • Gasket and sealing geometry
